Ford ATNPC- Industrial Reconstruction

Stenco was selected as the Program Manager for the ATNPC Thermal Oxidizer Replacement program at Ford Motor Company's Livonia Transmission Plant Complex. Stenco performed all coordination, planning, scheduling, safety, and procurement of all building trade work, site work, foundations, structural steel, roofing, mechanical, and electrical work for this major renovation. This program included the removal and replacement of an existing Catalytic Thermal Oxidizing (CTO) System with a new Regenerative Oxidizing (RTO) System. The scope of work included new exhaust duct risers and headers and the required platform for four RTO Burner and eighteen dynamometer test cells located in Test Cell Wings 5, 6 and 7 of the ATNPC facility.

Project highlights include:

  • Site work and foundations for new platform location
  • New steel platform to support three (3) new RTO units
  • Exhaust duct replacement on four (4) existing dynamometer test cells
  • Coordinated UAW Skilled Trades in steel erection, selective mechanical, and electrical work

All construction activities required careful coordination with plant personnel to install the new RTO system with minimal adverse impact to the daily operation of the ATNPC -- no more than two (2) cells may be shut down at any time. As Program Manager, a unique challenge was for Stenco to create a culture that pulled together different trade groups within Ford so they could work simultaneously to complete the program goals, ahead of schedule and under budget.
